Never Pay Full Price

Never Pay Full Price

You can get a discount on virtually every good or service you buy. Here are a few common ways to save money on a good/service:

  • Buy gift cards at a discount
    • Bestbuy, Costco, Dollar General, Giftcards.com, Sam’s Club, Staples, and Target have some of the steepest discounts on third-party gift cards.
  • Join their rewards program and download their app
    • Many retailers will give you a discount for joining their rewards program, signing up to receive text messages, or downloading their app.
  • Use a shopping portal
    • Check Cash Back Monitor to find which shopping portal has the best discount on the retailer you are shopping through. The discount from these portals usually “stacks” or is added to the discount you get elsewhere.
  • Credit card benefits
    • More premium cards such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve have annual benefits that will directly pay for at least a portion of a good or service.
  • Credit card category bonuses
    • Cards such as the Chase Ink cards have category bonuses of 3%-5% on select retailers such as gas stations, grocery stores, and office supply. These bonuses usually “stack” with whatever other discounts you are able to apply.
  • Credit card offers
    • All the major credit cards have an offers section where there are discounts offered on different retailers. Like shopping portals these offers often stack with others.
    • The Card Pointers app will automatically apply any applicable card offers at check out.
  • Wait for sales
    • All major retailers have sales at different points in the year.
  • Ask for a discount!
    • If the retailer is not a massive company, it may be willing to give you a discount just for asking. I know it can feel awkward but the worst thing they can say is no.

The companies below all have some way to get 10%+ savings on their products or services. The top bullet point is the most meaningful discount currently available. I know it is currently a short and random list, but I am going to turn this into an easy to use Google Doc and permanent part of the site that will be constantly expanding, so stay tuned.

Bowlero/Lucky Strike

  • Costco: $100 (2x$50) Bowlero or Lucky Strike gift cards ($25X4) for $79.99
  • App: Get 10 points for every $1 spent at Bowlero excluding alcohol by downloading the Bowlero App. Each point is worth about $.01, as you get a $10 discount at 1k points, $15 at 1,500 etc.

Dave & Busters

  • Costco: $100 (2x$50) Dave & Busters gift cards for $79.99
  • App: Constant promotions via their rewards app on which you can also load Powercard balances so you don’t lose them.
  • Ebay: Search Dave and  Busters on Ebay and you will see a large number of Powercards  with tickets and chips. You can use the tickets to buy food ($5 per 1,000 tickets). As is the case with all gift cards there is always the risk the seller isn’t being truthful about the card balance. From what I can tell on Redditt forums, the tickets are worth roughly $4-5 per 1,000 tickets. You cannot use tickets to buy chips.
  • There are often surveys on the Dave and Buster’s receipts that have $10 off $10.

Disney World and Land

  • Periodic 10% off Disney gift card sales throughout the year at Target and Costco
  • Southern California and Florida resident passes with significant discounts.

  • DoorDash has frequent sales of 15-25% off DoorDash gift cards in the app.
  • Staples and BestBuy have 10-15% off DoorDash gift card sales throughout the year.

Gap
