Amazon

  • 10% off via Zift Zillions
    • Doordash and CVS often sell Zift Zillions Gifts egifts which includes Amazon at a 10% discount. There are many flavors of Zift Zillions so make sure you choose the one that includes Amazon which will be pictured at the front of the card. Doordash helpfully includes the words (without Amazon) in the title so do not purchase this card. Once you buy the card you have to activate it and choose Amazon as the gift card of your choice. See Zift Zillion’s explanation here.
  • Create a discount with pre-paid debits via Amazon reloads
    • Amazon reloads are one of the few and easiest ways to get Amazon credit at a discount. Buy a pre-paid debit at a discount, then type “amazon reload” into the Amazon search bar and load the balance of a pre-paid gift card. If you have a pre-paid debit with few bucks left this is also a good way to get rid of it, but beware that there is a $5 minimum.
  • Check shopping portals
    • Shopping portals occasionally have a few percent back on Amazon or greater percentages on particular items. Check Cash Back Monitor for the best current Amazon portal deal.
  • Use Amazon subscriptions

Chick-Fil-A

  • Chick-Fil-A giftcards are almost impossible to get consistently at a meaningful discount. Fortunately, Chick-Fil-A has a great rewards program that is easy to use on their app and has a few other ways of getting free items fairly consistently that are detailed below.
  • Join the Chick-Fil-A Rewards Program and download the app
    • Chick-Fil-A has four membership tiers: member, silver (1,000 points), red (4,000) and signature (10,000).Member 10 points per dollar spent, silver 11 points, red 12 points, and signature 13 pointsThe reward system has a tier structure

Someone on Redditt updates items by their best value on this Google Doc with the kale crunch side and small ice cream cone presently offering the best value.
    • In 2022, Loyalty Levers did an analysis of the program and you get about 5-7.5% of your spending back depend on the item you choose.
  • Manager drops/surveys
    • If you have the app, managers will often drop a free sandwich, fries or other reward in the rewards section of the app.
    • If the service was bad or particularly long they will sometimes give you a “Be Our Guest” card for a free sandwich or other items.
  • Surveys
    • Sometimes members are sent surveys that if you complete you will receive a free sandwich. The bottom of your receipt may also have a survey invitation.  At most the surveys take a few minutes.
  • Free item birthday month
    • During your birthday month members usually get a free cookie or brownie and Signature members get a free entrée.
  • New stores First 100 Sweepstakes.
    • New stores used to give free meals for a year to the first 100 people in line.  The promotion is now a sweepstakes that is limited to zip codes that are close to new stores. The free meals for a year prize is given in the form of a card with 52 free meals loaded onto it. Also note that you will owe taxes on the $3,900 retail value so think of it more as deeply discounted Chick-fil-A then free Chick-fil-A.

Costco

  • Costco is one of the tougher spots to get discounts because their deals are already so good!
  • Groupon membership deals
    • Groupon offers $40/$60 cards for Goldstar/Executive memberships at different times of the year.
  • Join the Executive membership
    • Costco’s Executive membership gives you 2% back on all spend up to $1,250 a year. The 2% back is paid in the form of Costco certificates at the end of the year that can be used on everything at Costco including paying for your next year’s membership. You can use the executive membership rewards for gift cards. There are a few exclusions on what you can redeem for “ toward purchases that are not recorded through Costco’s front-end registers, such as purchases at gas stations, Food Courts, and online at Costco.com; (ii) as payment on credit card accounts; (iii) on purchases of services, such as travel and auto; (iv) where prohibited by law or regulation; or (v) on certain other categories as determined at Costco’s discretion.”
  • Check here for weekly coupons/deals.

CVS

  • Join the CVS ExtraCare program
    • ExtraCare has two tiers of membership
      • Free to join tier
        • 2% back on in-store and online purchases, a $3 reward on your birthday, and up to $50 for filling prescriptions. For most people this is probably the right choice.
      • ExtraCare +
        • Costs $5 a month or $48 a year. You receive 20% off CVS health brands, free same-day prescription delivery, free shipping, and $10 a month in ExtraCare bucks. For people who have relatively expensive prescriptions or prescriptions they have to pick up they would rather have delivered, this is likely to be the value maximizing choice.
    • ExtraCare rewards can be used for anything at CVS except alcohol, tobacco, lottery tickets, stamps, gift cards, and crucially prescriptions.
    • Both memberships will get you $5 back after 10 prescription refills.
  • Check shopping portals
    • CVS.com almost always has pretty significant (1-12%) discounts on shopping portals although gift cards are usually ineligible for discounts. Check Cash Back Monitor for the best current CVS.com shopping portal deal.
  • Check for coupons on the app
    • CVS has frequent coupons listed on their app.
  • Check your receipt for coupons
    • CVS has hilariously long receipts that have many coupons printed on them. Before you throw them out, check to see if there are any decent coupons you are likely to use. I have gotten great coupons such as 40% off your next non-pharmacy single item purchase and $4 off your next purchase of $4 or more. Note these coupons tend to expire within a few weeks of their issuance.
  • Use and Flexible Spending Account or Health Savings Account for eligible items
    • Both FSAs and HSAs allow you to spend pre-tax dollars on medical items. Not all items at pharmacies will be eligible but many will be. If you are towards the end of your FSA plan year and you have extra funds, most employers won’t roll over the balance although they can legally allow you to rollover up to $680 in 2026. You can go to a pharmacy and spend the extra funds on FSA eligible items.
    • HSAs give you debit cards that can also be used at pharmacies or you can buy an item, then submit the receipt. Generally you should try to hold onto cash in these accounts because they compound tax free, but if you really need a medication, HSAs can be a source of funds.

Dave & Busters

  • Ebay sketchy but deeply discounted cards
    • Search Dave and  Busters on Ebay and you will see a large number of Powercards  with tickets and chips. You can use the tickets to buy food ($5 per 1,000 tickets). As is the case with all gift cards there is always the risk the seller isn’t being truthful about the card balance. From what I can tell on Redditt forums, the tickets are worth roughly $4-5 per 1,000 tickets. You cannot use tickets to buy chips.
  • Receipt surveys
    • There are often surveys on the Dave and Buster’s receipts that have $10 off $10,

Get Your Guide

  • Get Your Guide is a leading tour and experience booking engine based in Berlin, Germany. I have not used their service, but it is one of the three big booking platforms along with Klook and Viator. It operates globally, but has one of the best platforms for European experiences. Get Your Guide is not highly promotional. A 10% or greater discount is usually as good as you can get without a special promotion.

    • Google the tour you are looking for in the city. For example, “Austin taco tour.” Then see if you can find the vendor that matches the listing on Viator. Given Get Your Guide’s commissions are 20-30%, they are likely to be cheaper than on Get Your Guide. If you are feeling ambitious you can also call and negotiate a lower price.

These tiers are obviously intended for small contractors that are going to be spending a lot at Home Depot.
  • Get the Home Depot credit card
    • The Home Depot credit card is not usually worth getting, they periodically send coupons that provide some savings. • Sign-up for the Jersey Mike’s rewards program and download their app
    • Unlike other rewards programs, Jersey Mike’s does not have a points per dollar spent, rather each item has a different shore points total associated with it that are shown below and available here.
  • 48 points gets you a free mini sub, 72 points a regular sub, and 144 points a giant sub.

    • The NFL game is weekly. You pick 8 teams to win every week. You receive 5 shore points for making a pick and 1 Shore Point for every correct pick. If you get 8 correct picks you will receive 13 Shore Points a week. There are also automatic prizes for every week you play starting with a free chips & drink in 2 total weeks of play and ending with a free regular sub after 15 total weeks played. You also get 1 leaderboard point for every correct prediction and have the chance to win Super Bowl tickets and other prizes.
    • The NHL promotional game is similar to the NFL game, but more lucrative. You pick up to 4 teams daily and get 2 Shore Points every day you play plus 1 Shore Point for every correct pick. Even with no correct picks you would receive 14 Shore Points a week vs 13 Shore Points in the NFL game and up to 42 points if you get every pick correct. Like with the NFL game you also get 1 leaderboard point and have the chance to win tickets to the Stanley cup or other prizes.

Klook

  • Klook is a leading tour and experience booking engine based in Hong Kong. I have not used their service, but it is one of the three big booking platforms along with Get Your Guide and Viator. It operates globally, but has one of the best platforms for Asian experiences. Like Get Your Guide and to a lesser extent Viator, Klook is not highly promotional. A 20% or greater discount is usually as good as you can get without a special promotion. There are also a number of negative reviews about Klook on major sites such as Redditt and Tripadvisor.
  • Visa 20% off promotion
    • Visa currently has a 20% off Klook tours & activites promotion you can activate with KLOOK20OFF
  • Join the Klook rewards program

Given Klook’s commissions are 20-30%, they are likely to be cheaper than on Klook If you are feeling ambitious you can also call and negotiate a lower price.
